Is this the year of the developer or what?  Everyone is looking for coders and Windows Mobile has announced their contest for healthcare/life sciences imageapplications for the platform.  I still keep thinking about the Mobile X-Box application too that comes with the new platform, so perhaps there’s some additional areas for exploration there as well.  This is certainly a far cry from those ugly visual basic embedded program that were available years back and I even created a few of those, and they were all ugly and slow, but not the case today.   image

“Beginning on February 18, 2011, Windows Phone 7 (WP7) partners, developers and software design hobbyists can enter their health and life science applications for Windows Phone 7 for a chance to win* an Xbox 360 4GB console with Kinect. Ten (10) winning applications will be selected by our judges. Don't delay—the contest ends June 1, 2011 at 5 p.m. (Pacific Time). Winners will be announced on June 6, 2011.”

At the bottom of the post is a link for the official rules and additional information.  Developers certainly do have all kinds of choices today to where they decide to donate their talent.  BD

The market for health-related mobile phone apps is booming. There are about 17,000 mobile health apps in major stores today, from symptom reference guides to calorie counters to programs for tracking blood glucose and blood pressure levels.

According to the Pew Internet Project's latest survey, almost one in ten cell phone users has a health app on their device and by  2015, roughly one-third of all Smartphone users will be running some type of mobile health app on their phones, says research2guidance in its new Global Health Market Report

The Global Health Market Report also found that a 43% of mobile health applications today are designed for healthcare professionals. These include continuing medical education, remote monitoring, clinical trials and health care management apps.

Mobile technology is already changing the way healthcare is delivered. The challenge, says Dr. Bill Crounse, my colleague and Microsoft’s global healthcare industry manager, is to develop specific kinds of mobile technologies that meet the complex requirements of clinicians and other healthcare practitioners.
