When as a patient you are sick, do you care about whether you are a right or left winger, I would venture to say most of us put that on the back burner when imageneeding care.  Here we go again, one more OMG story and Mr. Gingrich is at it again and lack of consumer IT literacy is sticking out once more. I think that’s what happens to these folks that are the “non participants” when it comes to taking a stand and talking about political issues today, they go back and try to use what worked in the 70s and it comes out kind of stupid if you ask me.  We are not living in that decade any longer, it’s nice to have memories and I cherish mine too, but gee get a clue.  This is a big reason why the big blow horns and what they say any more carry very little interest other than to look and see how ridiculous they are.

Newt Gingrich Gets Healthcare Value Bass Ackwards–It’s All About Those Algorithms

All it does is take everyone listening back to create an emotional rush and does nothing but create more unrest for those who are not up to par with general consumer IT knowledge, especially the basics in healthcare. I wrote my opinion piece a couple weeks ago and seriously I just sit and scratch me head on what in the heck are these demented thought processes doing as the brain is a very imagepowerful thing and there’s a place in time to where one has to realize that others are not seeing the same points in the same manner as you are, so look around and listen up and see if you maybe falling off your rocker.  I do that all the time and try to keep up to date and use “realistic” scenarios and not OMG tactics.  As a matter of fact if you have read here long enough you might kind of get that idea as I am not out here looking for ratings or trying to portray some type of narcissist blog I hope.

Gingrich is confused as he’s like everyone else in looking at the face value of seeing the software producing results, but are we getting our money’s worth, and further more are we getting “accurate” or “desired” results, stop and give that some thought.  Profits are linked with the word desired.  Accurate is linked with transparency.  Our government is looking at the situation with our US CIO doing an extensive evaluation to ensure taxpayer money is not over spent in the same scenarios.

Now to move on and address this same 70s thing again, what did we see about Medicare, Andy Griffith.  I liked the videos but did nothing to inspire me as to where Medicare was going and what they are doing, just took me back to a time when I remembered how great “8 track tapes” were. <grin>  I was concerned when the new direct of HHS was appointed, not due to any personal reasons, likes or dislikes at all, but I could see at the time that Health IT was going to consume a huge amount of time and effort, and thus some first hand experience here was needed and going to play a major role.  When you sit around and write code you just kind project this stuff as you have a pretty general idea of where thins are going if you keep up with the news in many areas and this is exactly the concern I had.

We have others around too that talk and don’t demonstrate much on their own with consumer general IT knowledge too but she’s in pressure cooker more so than other directors. We saw a lot of technology emphasis with President Obama at election time and boy did it go over well, but somewhere we have lost this focus and it’s what is needed and what the public needs to learn and gain from knowledge.  Prior to this post back in January of 2009 I made this post and it is also very true today, algorithms and whistle blowers are the two hot trends in healthcare, just read the news today.

Kathleen Sebelius, Kansas Governor for HHS – Please not! Put the “Smart” People in these key positions

You might laugh a bit but once again, poor old Bill Gates is out there beating this drum somewhat alone as the ludicrously of politics and keeping the citizens distracted on the Washington soap operas has picked steam again.  He has testified in front of Congress many times but the only message that seems to get across is “it’s for those guys over there” and we just continue to have “non participants” in so many branches of government, but Congress is the huge focus and some of the folks everybody laughs at today sadly.  I think even Bill Gates would love to see some smarter folks and capabilities in Congress, but you can only lead them to water and can’t make them drink.  These folks in Congress need to make law that involve technology too so bliss has no place.

Bill Gates Testifies before Congress - more technology imageeducation needed before the US falls behind....

The news puts out articles about how to improve health literacy, well a suggestion here, improve your own first and then become role models and with using attraction and believability we can perhaps not have to fight battles at the “soap opera levels” we see today, as a better educated, informed and participating body of government beats the hell out of what we have there today and those who do rise above won’t have to drug down to this level to defend themselves.  Knowledge and participation is power.

HHS National Plan to Improve Health Literacy – Not Going To Happen Until We Focus on Using Technology (The Tool for Literacy) Which Includes Role Models at HHS And Other Places in Government

There are folks making waves in saying don’t trust the insurance companies and for good reason and for that matter in itself Ms. Sebelius would be wise to acknowledge the effect of technology today with healthcare, being a role model would be great.  Others see it and are trying to speak up.  It’s those algorithms again so no matter you say, if you don’t address that side of the coin, nothing happens, it’s just words.

Consumer Watchdog Warns Sebelius on Health Insurers – Good Reason for This as Insurer Subsidiaries Are in The Game to Play Just As Private Equity Groups Diversify and Collaborate Holdingsimage

Are we paying attention to the mighty algorithmically created business networks that are being built by health insurance companies?  The issues today go much deeper than companies selling insurance and if you don’t acknowledge this fact and where their power and knowledge is going, we are on a sinking ship, lots going on behind the scenes.  Here’s one example which may involved their getting involved in promoting more Chinese products to save money, kind of speaks that way, but read the link and form your own opinion.  Company subsidiary actions need to be watched today as again data and super intelligence is what they are getting together with machine gun technology as we still run around with swords and daggers, it is what it is.  Denial and the inability to see this is a loser for everyone.

UnitedHealth subsidiary (Ingenix Subsidiary I3) Acquires ChinaGate – Working to Sell Chinese Products Globally

What is also a bit odd is that these same subsidiaries get anti fraud contracts, in other words find fraud with algorithmic software formulas, but maybe they are good at it since they had the rest of us for 15 years with the short pay on the Ingenix data base?   For the employers, they offer even more software to analyze.  Here’s even further use of the algorithms being used that run 24/7, this is where all the decisions are coming from and again non participants may have a hard time embracing this, it is what it is so no matter what you say, if the algorithms are doing something else then your credibility has gone down the toilet.

Ingenix (UnitedHealthCare Subsidiary) Creates Desktop Software for Employers to Analyze Employee Benefit Use To Help Cut Costs – More Analytics and Algorithms To Save That Buckimage

Now we have this pay for performance issue going on and remember for profit companies will design system that show profits and the marketing here is a zoo as even for those looking to make money it’s unknown territory too.

UnitedHealthCare To Use Data Mining Algorithms On Claim Data To Look For Those At “Risk” of Developing Diabetes – Walgreens and the YMCA Benefit With Pay for Performance Dollars to Promote and Supply The Tools

I’ll use my 87 year old mother as a prime example and I have written a couple posts to this effect.  Walgreens pharmacists are very much motivated and countered what the health insurance Part D plan said to my mother for he glucose readings.  Read the story and you can see what I mean.  As there’s money carrots out there the aggression on selling, versus actually offering health advice changes and if a few get better in the process then a victory can be claimed, but let’ bury those who get put off with this guerilla marketing though so we can throw up a few stats out there.  If you get marketed like this and don’t like it, speak up as there’s in the pipelines as everyone wants to compete and it will get ugly and turn into one huge annoyance instead of attracting consumers like it should be designed to do.

These telemarketers read off a canned speech with the solicitation of asking if there was a diabetic in the house, how crappy can one get, like the old “can I talk to the lady of the house”.  By the way I still get those calls and tell all the lady of the house is not home.  These examples are within the last 3-4 weeks too, the shape of marketing your health to come.  image

If you are smart enough and read up you can see where insurers are buying such companies as subsidiaries, again pay attention today to subsidiary watch as they put money down to the bottom line.

Humana Buys Hummingbird Coaching Services to Include Adherence Rx Subsidiary With Compliance Algorithms

Again, I would like to see our current administration take the high road and get rid of what worked in the 70s as it’s not going to work today, just a bunch of mumbo jumbo as the times we are living in today are nothing like the 70s, 80s or even the 90s, so comparisons to those times are pretty much useless with where technology has taken us today.  Those old folks though who still mentally embrace those ideals though will continue on their “stupid” and erratic approaches though to pick battles and issues and to gain the public’s confidence back, current administration needs to rise above and regain some confidence and the the past is no where to begin.

ROLE MODELS NEEDED AS AS WELL AS PARTICIPANTS WITH HEALTHCARE IT CONSUMER KNOWLEDGE.

Seeing leaders going on field missions does little more me and I am guessing it does little for others as there’s no action that affects consumers and as well as CEOs today, nobody gives a darn on how smart your are or what you say, it’s in what you do and your sincerity and participation.

Last but not least here since I am on a roll today we had the news which was conveyed in an OMG format about Michelle Obama not liking her job as first lady, imagecan we get a break on how things like this are reported.  Nobody liked everything about the job they do 100% of the time and having to face some of the stupid press and other stuff that floats around out there is something none of us would like so again what’s out there in the news to gain ratings distracts big time.

Back when she announced her program for the war on obesity, I can see what she didn’t want the standing ovation as this was for the kids, but gee look at about 1/4 to 1/3 o of the Congressional BMI’s she was looking at?  Congress members admit to the fact that they are maybe fat?  Again, here we are back around to the old paradigm and judging patterns of IT’S FOR THOSE GUYS OVER THERE.

Why Was Michelle Obama 'embarrassed' by The Standing Ovation As Obesity Program for Children Was Announced

Here she wants to do something good and has a crowd of a bunch of fat folks out there with out of range BMIs that don’t even give any thoughts on how they might participate.

“We can be fat, we are lawmakers, but lets get after those kids and other people that are fat” as the message comes across.  No role models here.

We get the same type of garbage from this Congressman who thinks what he has going on gives him the ability to over look and go around what we are trying to tell everyone else about cell phone safety.  What great role models we have out there right?  Narcissm lives on.

US Congressional Representative Gets Pulled Over for Using a Cell Phone While Driving And Was Live on the Air Doing Radio Interview

So when it comes right down to all of this, I’m with Jon Stewart to get sanctity back and gee I wish these Congressional folks would “smarten” up a bit and start participating so we could be productive and end this stupidity that so many of us are do disappointed with, it’s destroying the country and leaving little to be desired. image

Jon Stewart and Robert Colbert: 'Rally To Restore Sanity'–(And Maybe Help Stamp Out Some Magpie Healthcare too) On Their October 30th March on Washington

I do have to be my own role model as we cant’ seem to find anyone in politics who lives in the current century and they just keep digging up the non relevant items of the past to try and make some kind of weird case for the weird things they say.  I want to say too this is non partisan as it happens on both sides, but the GOP is ruling the roost with news coverage though as it appears they have even bigger issues that the other side, and they make for big OMG stories on the news, with raptures of humor and laughter as there are intelligent people out there that see through this as very few really think that way, so all take heed here as you are being seen for exactly what you put out there.  Wise up and realize it’s the algorithms running in the background and not what one says that is running things today and the folks that have and use them are sitting on all the money.  BD

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Saturday said Republicans should try to oust Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius because she was acting “in the spirit of the Soviet tyranny” and represents “left-wing thought police.”

Gingrich, speaking at the Values Voter summit in Washington, told an audience of social conservatives that Sebelius’s letter instructing insurers not to blame premium hikes on the new health care law was so egregious she deserved to be forced out.

“When Secretary Sebelius said the other day she would punish insurance companies who told the truth about Obamacare, she was behaving exactly in the spirit of the Soviet tyranny,” he said. “If she is going to represent left-wing thought police about Obamacare, she should be forced to resign by the new Congress.”
